Jennifer Pike became the youngest-ever winner of the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 2002.
She was awarded the coveted prize at the age of only twelve, after her inspired performance of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conductor Sir Andrew Davis, broadcast live to millions on BBC 2 on 26th May 2002 from the Barbican Hall, London.
Jennifer, who
comes from Cheshire, began learning the violin at the age of five,
having shown exceptional talent from a very early age. She has
given performances throughout the country and abroad, including
recitals in London's Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room. She made her
highly acclaimed BBC Proms Royal Albert Hall debut in 2005. As a
concerto soloist she has performed with major orchestras,
including all the BBC Orchestras, the London Symphony Orchestra,
the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Halle Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool
Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, the Academy of St
Martin in the Fields, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, the World
Youth Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, Auckland Philharmonia, Tampere
Philharmonic and the City of London Sinfonia. She has recorded for ABC
Classics and recently signed a contract for a series of CDs with
Chandos with her dubut CD of French violin sonatas released in March 2011.
She is a member of the prestigious BBC New Generation Artists Scheme. Recent awards include the South Bank Show/Times Breakthrough Award and the London International Violin Masters Award.
She has broadcast frequently on radio and television, and now aged just twenty one she is now widely regarded as one of the finest violinists in Britain.
