An exciting collaborative project between master sarod players, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, and violin virtuoso Jennifer Pike, this concert aims to preserve the essence of both Indian and Western traditions so that they can flow into each other without artistic compromise. The aim is to joyfully explore the common musical ‘DNA’ of both traditions. These artists have come together in the spirit of sharing their own musical traditions as well as finding common ground in ragas and medieval modes, vibrato (pitch inflection on a single note), portamento and gamakas (the sliding melodic ornaments connecting notes). Along with the sarods and violin, the performance includes tabla accompaniment. J S Bach Partita No. 3, BWV 1006.1 Recorded for BBC Radio 3 |

Bach and Khan at Wigmore HallA bringing together of Indian and Western classical traditions in a programme in which violinist Jennifer Pike collaborates directly with members of the Khan family in their own compositions. Raga Yaman is associated with the evening and the dying of the day, while both Raga Behag and Raga Pilu – the latter often described as a peaceful raga – are associated with the second quarter of the night.
